The International Maritime Law Seminar, now in its 12th year, will take place in London at Gibson Hall on 21 September 2017. With an average attendance of more than 250 Insurance and Maritime Law specialists, the International Maritime Law Seminar has grown from a small event to one of the most heavily anticipated legal seminar in London.
The half-day seminar is complimentary. This year we will have fourteen speakers from thirteen different countries, addressing recent developments in maritime and transport law within their respective jurisdictions.
The Young Maritime Lawyers Conference organized in co-operation with the associations from Belgium, Germany, France and the United Kingdom is scheduled for Friday 16 and Saturday 17 June 2017. The 26th Monaco Yacht Show was held in the iconic Port Hercules from 28 September until 1 October 2016. The MYS is the place to admire, visit and purchase around 125 extraordinary one-off superyachts built by the world’s most respectful shipyards. 40 new launches are unveiled in world premiere at every edition. Arnold and Charlotte van Steenderen, the members of our yacht team, have just returned from a visit to the Show. They have met several clients and consultants in the yachting industry to discuss projects completed, or still being under construction.
ARACON is the longest-running and biggest bunkering conference in the Amsterdam-Rotterdam-Antwerp region. The conference attracts all the main bunker suppliers and barging companies in the ARA and Northwest Europe as well as shipowners and managers from throughout the region. ARACON takes place every autumn in Rotterdam, the biggest port and by far the most important bunkering centre in Europe. The latest conference was hosted in the Hilton Hotel Rotterdam on Thursday 22 and Friday 23 September 2016.
As an international orientated law firm we keep track of development in law and practice also outside our land borders. Early 2015 was the start of an important change in English insurance law.
Members of our yacht team have just returned from a very successfull visit to MYS 2015 in Monaco. The team has met several clients and consultants in the yachting industry to discuss projects completed, or still being under construction.
The pedigree yacht builders do well and so is the supporting industry of contractors and suppliers. We are acting for Owners in newbuilding and conversion projects, but also accept instructions in contentious matters. A growing area of our involvement is in regard to insurance claims and recoveries.
The question has arisen whether the English High Court in the case of Yam Seng Pte Limited -v- International Trade Corporation Limited  EWHC 111 (QB) has demonstrated willingness to imply a duty of good faith as a general principle. Jan M. van Dunné, Professor of Law Emeritus of the Rotterdam Erasmus University, is a keen follower of developments in English Contract Law and upon his initiative a workshop was held on 26 June 2015 in Rotterdam to address the differences and similarities of Civil Law and Common Law in regard to Good faith.
The 6th European Bunker Fuel Conference took place at The Mainport Hotel in Rotterdam on Thursday 21 and Friday 22 May 2015.
The IBA Maritime and Transport Law Conference: Shipping and Chartering in Challenging Times will take place at Swissôtel Métropole, Geneva, Switzerland on 7 and 8 May 2015. It is supported by the IBA European Regional Forum and the sessions will include:
