IBA Conference 2012 - Dublin

Arnold van Steenderen
16 October 2012

On 3 October 2012 a Port Infrastructure Session was held by the IBA Maritime Committee. The topic was the operation of public and private ports within several jurisdictions with the port of Rotterdam as “gateway to Europe” and landlord-model as benchmark. Several aspects of privatization as well as the concept of governmental concessions and lease-contracts were discussed.

Marieke van den Dool participated in the session panel and gave a presentation about the Dutch situation from the perspective of the landlord-model as dominant in the Netherlands and outlining the most recent expansion of the port (Second Maasvlakte). Marc Evertse of the Port of Rotterdam authority made a well-received presentation in which a comparison between the Netherlands and Brazil was made. This session was attended by maritime lawyers from several jurisdictions worldwide.
